Christy Knowings, the actress and comedian best known for her work on Nickelodeon’s sketch-comedy series All That, has died at the age of 46 after suffering a severe asthma attack that resulted in brain damage.

According to TMZ, Knowings was hospitalized on Friday, August 7, following the medical emergency and was placed on life support at a Los Angeles-area hospital. She remained on life support for several days before her family made the difficult decision to withdraw it on Tuesday, August 11. She died later that night.

Her death was confirmed through family members, with reports describing the circumstances as a devastating loss for those close to her.

Christy Knowings became known for Nickelodeon’s All That

Knowings joined All That in 1997, becoming part of the cast during the show’s fourth season. She remained with the series through its sixth season, appearing in approximately 32 episodes between 1997 and 2000.

The actress was known for playing a variety of characters. Among them were Penny Lane, Gloria Bankhead and Jessica in the recurring “Whateverrr!!!” sketches alongside Amanda Bynes.

She also worked with other future stars of the Nickelodeon generation, including Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell and Nick Cannon.

Knowings originally came to the attention of All That producers after appearing in And Now This, a Nickelodeon sketch-comedy special associated with Rosie O’Donnell. Her twin brother, actor Chris Knowings, encouraged her to perform impressions and accents, helping her attract the attention of casting directors.

Her career after All That

Following her time on Nickelodeon, Knowings continued working in television and film.

She appeared in Sesame Street in three episodes between 2008 and 2011, where she worked alongside her real-life twin brother, Chris Knowings. Chris is also known for his long-running work on the children’s program.

Knowings also appeared in the 2009 film Mother and Child, which starred Annette Bening, Naomi Watts, Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington. She was also credited as a performer and writer of the song “Being,” which appeared on the film’s soundtrack.

Her creative work later expanded into music. In 2020, she released the folk single “To the World,” continuing to explore her musical interests alongside her acting career.

News of Knowings’ death prompted tributes from her former All That castmates.

Kenan Thompson, who worked with Knowings during her years on the Nickelodeon series, shared an emotional tribute following her death. Thompson described her as one of the funniest people he had known and expressed his love and condolences to her family.

Other members of the All That family have also mourned her passing, remembering her comedic talent and the energy she brought to the series.

All That premiered on Nickelodeon in 1994 and became one of the network’s most influential sketch-comedy programs. The series helped launch the careers of several performers, including Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes and Kel Mitchell.

Her death is the second reported loss of an All That cast member in 2026. Kianna Underwood, another former cast member, died in January at age 33 after being struck in a hit-and-run incident in Brooklyn. Police said she was hit by two vehicles and that no arrests had initially been made.
